Description

What Wir sind Helden and Mia are for German rock fans, what Sven Väth is for techno fans and Ascii: Disko is for doom-schlager freaks, Deine Lakaien is for people who like to listen to melancholic, dark electronic music.

For 20 years, trained conductor Ernst Horn and singer Alexander Veljanov have been making music together. Horn composes sophisticated, yet always catchy arrangements, while Veljanov interprets the mostly philosophically profound lyrics with his unmistakable voice. This blend has catapulted the duo – alongside equally underground bands like Einstürzende Neubauten and Nick Cave – into the charts several times and led them on tours throughout Europe. Supported by a loyal fan base and their ever-growing cult status, Deine Lakaien also repeatedly experiment. In the mid-nineties, the band set a new trend with an acoustic tour. Opulent wave was reduced to its song-like essence; driving beats and pounding synthesizers suddenly emerged solely from the piano. The result was astonished concertgoers and a departure from the cliché that modern wave is a simple thing.

To mark the band's anniversary, Horn and Veljanov are embarking on an orchestral tour. They have once again reworked the catchy tunes from their eight studio albums and had them rehearsed by musicians from the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt. This is fertile ground for conductor Horn, who is delighted to be able to "draw from a wealth of resources." And the key here is that the songs aren't drowned in classical pop mush, but rather elevated to the modern level offered by an orchestra with its diverse musical possibilities. This is also a challenge for the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt, which has already played with artists such as Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) and Bobby McFerrin. Dr. Ralph Ziegler, Artistic Director, confirms this: "Since the music of Deine Lakaien is already very intelligent and independent music, for which the division into serious and popular music no longer applies, I expect a very demanding, challenging, and exciting project in which our orchestra will play a part in the sound of the music in a way we have never realized before."

This event is recommended not only for the band's most die-hard fans. The two and a half hours with Deine Lakaien offer the chance to venture beyond mainstream radio and be captivated by the enchanting songs and the extraordinary atmosphere that Deine Lakaien create together with an orchestra.
